First Surprise of 2012

Life is full of unexpected changes.

I have been dreading writing this post for a week, not sure how much I was wanting to share. But I figure only our friends and family read this, so... here goes.

Last Wednesday Ben and I received some bad news. Due to details that I am not going to go into, Ben lost his job. It obviously came as a shock to the both of us, and the timing could not be worse. Baby girl is due Feb 20-ish and our insurance is now canceled at the end of January. Like I said, great timing.

There isn't a whole lot more to say other than Ben and I are doing fine. Sometimes it is hard to wrap our minds around how quickly our life is changing, and not only due to the fact that we are about to have a baby.

On the flip side, we still feel incredibly blessed. We feel that this is a blessing in disguise and will eventually work out to our benefit. We live amongst a wonderful support system of family and friends and know that no matter what happens, we will be taken care of. And above all else, we have each other, and our baby is healthy. I keep thinking that things could be worse, and then silently beg the Lord not to prove me right. :)

For those of you who are already aware of our situation, we are thankful for the support and love that you have already given us. We are truly blessed by the love of our friends, family and the Lord.

Hey Megan. I just wanted to say that we were in the same boat and I was really freaking out when Ray lost his job two weeks ago. The Lord must have been really looking out for us because a couple days later Ray got a new job.

I hope it all goes well with you guys too. I try to keep in mind 1 Nephi 3:7 and Proverbs 3:5-6. Will pray for you guys!

Megan, what a blow! I'm so glad you guys have good perspective and are holding it together. It's hard when life throws you surprises that are devastating to you. I am praying for you guys, and I'm glad that your baby is healthy. :) Would you be able to apply for and get Medicaid before she arrives? That was really helpful when we had West.

Can you extend through COBRA (http://www.dol.gov/dol/topic/health-plans/cobra.htm)? Daniel quit his job when I was 6 months pregnant with William (yes, voluntarily, I'm still seething over it) and we were able to extend health insurance for several months. We were essentially paying for the full plan, but it was still cheaper than going without. Or you can apply for "Short-term Health Coverage" with an agent. Definitely try for Medicaid if you can. Best of luck. Can't wait to see pictures of your cute little baby!

Megan, I'm sorry to hear that! That is not a fun piece of news. I don't know anything about insurance or otherwise, but I'm here for you if you need anything!

That is so sad, I'm sorry to hear that! I don't think I would be handling it as well as you are...I'm so impressed by you! I know you both are strong, and everything will turn around for you soon!! Please let me know if there is anything I can do!

Glad you're staying positive. The Lord surely knows what he's doing! I saw Joyful Praise over the weekend and my favorite line was "God doesn't make mistakes and he sure isn't about to start with you!" (or something to that affect)

That's awful news, I hope the job hunt goes smoothly and quickly! We were without a job at the same time and just days before we had our baby girl we signed up for WIC & Medicaid, it was a BIG help until Chris started work! We'll keep your sweet family in our prayers!

LAME! Ugh! Things just tend to work out even when they are not working out but man that is crazy. He'll be home to help out with the baby, right?! :) Cobra seems like a good idea. I was scared you were going to say the baby wasn't doing well in this post so I'm glad it seems like things are going to work out. You can come to Dallas, there are lots of jobs here. :)

Oh, my. Hang in there---I hope for your sake the solution to this problem comes sooner rather than later. Say, in the next 4 weeks!

The lord likes to bring the best and the worst at the same time. I love you and I know all will be well. Call me if you need someone to cry with :)

Megan, I'm sorry to hear that--that just plain sucks. But I'm seriously impressed with your attitude and perspective.
You're in my thoughts and prayers, and if you need anything, I'm here for you. Hang in there; if anyone can do this, you can.
